You only get angry at something you feel weaker than. And so anger is a way of getting away from a certain feeling within us, and usually it’s the feeling of being vulnerable, afraid, threatened, unable to cope, etc.
Out of anger we immediately form enemies, because the energy of anger is to oppose and see the world in terms of opposition.
Meditation practice is not about figuring out why we get angry, it’s about the capacity to develop attention, so that when you feel afraid, when you feel threatened, when you feel incapable, you can actually experience it, and not get swallowed by it, and not push it away.
That’s what I mean when I say meditation is about building the ability to experience everything completely. And if we experience everything completely, we do not have to react to anything.
And that is freedom.
